Q1. What influence can happen by corporal punishment?

A.Akemi Tomoda, who is a member of research laboratory in Kumamoto graduate school, found that a person who got long-term corporal punishment in childhood, his/her brain( frontal robe) shrinks 19% than ordinal people. This study was lead with Harvard University. It was known that much corporal punishment cause behavior disorder or depression, but it wasn’t proved that corporal punishment has influence. By this research, we can tell that being exposed in stress stops the development of front robe.
This study is expected to make the most of early finding of corporal punishment.

I think this study will be the great reason of opposite-side of corporal punishment. However, it’s still unclear I can be absolutory opposite-side, because I heard another research that supports pro-side.

Tohoku-kodai high school, which is in Sendai city, announced that a teacher in Karate club hurt club member.
This school says that during the club activity, a teacher fisted three boys’ face, and one of them fractured his nose.
School also says that a teacher caused this problem because that club was before a big game and the pressure was great.
School reported this problem to Kotairen, which is the organization of high school club sports activity, and this organization accepted this problem, so they could participated the game. Actually, this school won the first in Miyagi prefecture.

I think this news proves corporal punishment can work on effectively. Actually, when I was a high school student, I saw corporal punishment, like punching, hitting or slinging ball, and sometimes I saw someone bleeding. However, no one said complaint. Maybe parents know that our teacher did that, however they accepted.
In club activity, I suppose that corporal punishment is likely to happen, and students cannot complain because they want to be selected as game members.

→I didn’t think about NGO groups before. I thought NGO group is the NGO group itself and it doesn’t have many kinds of different groups. By researching, I thought this save the children group is a little different from my topic, corporal punishment, however in terms of children’s welfare, I thought this can be related to my topic. Actually it deals with convention on the right of the child. We may say that in that convention, article 19.1, it tells us about prohibition of corporal punishment.
My impression of this group is their web site has enough pictures, so I can tell what they are trying, but I thought there’re a little too many donation information.

Q1. What is the good way to scold a child?
A.This article says that problem is that we are often unable to defuse emotions when faced with an annoying child's behavior. We need to try to calm the emotions in the face of a child before we confronted them, before we scold them. Also, we shouldn’t scold children with threatening. Children learn from parents, so if we threaten, children will threat. More, children feel their parents do not care when we shouted threats at their ears. Lastly, no-word isn’t good. If we want children not to play sand on the piano, say “Play sand outside terrace only.” Like this, if we want them not to do a certain thing, we should say it without no-word.

Q2. What can board of education can do for corporal punishment at school?
A. Firstly, corporal punishment is banned by law and is against the children’s rights. Board of education thinks that corporal punishment can happen under the situation when children don’t obey rule and they disturb the class order. They say it’s important to keep the atmosphere in which all teachers can argue about the problem, and also it’s important to make the opportunities of training of how to stop the corporal punishment.
I thought training is the most important idea because they need to unite the teacher’s realization of corporal punishment, and there is no acceptable exception.

The group does activity which is called “Blue Tie Affair.” The guests incorporated blue into their party attire and the activity was exceeded the group’s fundraising expectations. The group plans to build on second Blue Tie Affair in April 2012.

Although at this current time, CAPA does not have a particular position available. A person who wising to join CAPA sends resume to administrative team of CAPA.

I think this group’s service is effective and valuable. Because the group does practical services for example education, family support services, and counseling. The group has a brand new volunteer organization, called CAPA V.I.A, and I think it also can does good action. I think if I join the group, it will enrich my life, so I little consider joining.

01.  Do you know some cases about corporal punishment? Please explain it.

A.    In this site, there are a lot of cases of corporal punishment which were really happened in schools. For example, there was one case that the boy entered a vegetative state because of brain hemorrhage by teacher’s corporal punishment. The boy’s mother took the teacher to court, and reached compromise by compensating the mother for damages. In addition to this case, there are so many cases in this site.

From this site, I was so surprised because the number of cases is bigger than I expected. At the same time, the details were so serious. I didn’t know that there are students who forced into attempt suicide. Recently corporal punishment is regarded as a serious problem, so the number of cases is decreasing, but there is the harsh hazing in the club and violence at school still now.

A.   In this site, the doctor says that the good way to scold children is not to get sentimental, not to deny children’s personality, to explain why he/she is scolded, and so on. And at the same time, it is important that children feel love and safety under the relationship between parent and child.
